In short, Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity and is used to define any of the wireless technology that allows you to use your computer (laptop or otherwise) to gain Internet access without the use of wires for connectivity. The only requirement is that the user must be using a computer that has Wi-Fi connectivity already working. Most portable computers can add Wi-Fi using an adapter that plugs into a PC card slot or USB port.
