In today’s court rooms, there are often times when testimonies given by non enlish speaking witnesses or experts. Or in other cases it might even be the person on trial who dosen’t speak english. This is where today’s modern technology comes into play and greatly aids in the legal process. Wether it’s programs that translate textual documents into english or even audio translation so that the person on the stand can understand what he or she is being told, this makes our legal process inside the courtroom more efficient by giving court and legal staff options if a translator is not present or can not be found. CART or Communication Access Realtime Translation is one such system that converts speech to text which can serve not only people speaking foreign languages but also those with hearing impairments or even something as simple as heavy accents that may be difficult for jurors to understand. Court employees today must be a great deal more computer literate than was the case in the past as they will most likely have to use a wide variety of technologies in their day to day jobs.
